Bhagwant Mann initiated the deployment of the state's first Road Safety Force (SSF) on Saturday, with a programme held at PAP Jalandhar. Following the event, 1239 personnel with 144 vehicles were dispatched onto the roads. CM Bhagwant Mann stated that from February 1st, the force would be fully operational with the aim of halving road fatalities in its inaugural year.

Bhagwant Mann emphasised the need to call 112 immediately in case of accidents, assuring that Road Safety Force vehicles patrolling within 30 kilometers would reach the scene within 10 minutes, providing assistance and facilitating hospital transfers. Expressing concern over the yearly toll of approximately 5000 lives due to accidents, Bhagwant Mann highlighted the necessity of a force capable of preventing such incidents.

Drawing inspiration from the deployment of Toyota Hilux vehicles by police, Mann underscored the power of these vehicles in ensuring road safety. CM Mann cautioned Punjabis against indulging in stunts or risky behaviors on roads, noting that these vehicles would monitor activities closely. Additionally, he announced the installation of speed cameras along highways to track speeding vehicles and enforce penalties.

Acknowledging the contributions of sports personalities to road safety, Mann appointed former hockey team captain Gaganjeet Singh as SSP of SSF , emphasising the importance of adhering to rules and regulations. Gaganjeet Singh, known for his leadership in hockey and holding the record for the most goals scored, symbolises the commitment to fostering a culture of responsibility on the roads.

Furthermore, Mann issued a stern warning against driving under the influence of alcohol, stating that SSF would impound vehicles and escort offenders home upon collecting fines. He urged families to monitor the driving behavior of their members, emphasizing that adherence to rules and regulations ultimately lies with the individuals behind the wheel.
