Rajeev Verma, a 1992 batch IAs officer, has been named as the new chief secretary of Delhi, succeeding Dharmendra, who is set to retire on September 30.
“With the approval of the competent authority, Rajeev Verma, IAS, AGMUT cadre, 1992 batch, is hereby transferred from Chandigarh to Delhi and posted as chief secretary, GNCTD, w.e.f. 01.10.2025 or from the date of joining, whichever is later,” an official order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
Who is Rajeev Verma?
Rajeev Verma, a AGMUT cadre officer, is currently serving as the Chief Secretary of Chandigarh since January 29, 2024. Prior to that, he held the position of Advisor to the Administrator and Additional Secretary in Chandigarh from 2022 to 2024.
Verma, originally from Uttar Pradesh, also holds an MTech degree from IIT.
In his extensive bureaucratic career, Verma has worked with the Delhi government as Finance and Revenue Secretary between 2018 and 2022, along with key roles in the Transport department and other senior positions within various Delhi government departments.
At the central level, he has also served in important roles across the Defence, Power, and Health & Family Welfare ministries.
