Relief for IAS Abhishek Prakash, HC quashes bribery case

In a major relief to IAS officer Abhishek Prakash, the Lucknow bench of the  has quashed the high-profile corruption case linked to the solar project allegations.

With the corruption case officially closed, IAS officer Abhishek Prakash is expected to be reinstated soon. 

The observed that the charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act did not constitute any actionable offence. The bench noted that the allegations lacked evidence and therefore could not stand legal scrutiny. With this order, the chargesheet filed on May 15, 2025, has also been cancelled.

The complainant told the court that the complaint had been filed due to a misunderstanding. They acknowledged that the complaint made to the Minister's office was incorrect and had stemmed from confusion.

What is the case?

Abhishek Prakash, a 2006 batch IAS officer was then serving as CEO of Invest UP. Last year one Vishwajit Dutt of SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited registered complaint with chief minister office accusing that a of 5% was demanded for Rs 400 crore project clearance.

Following the complaint chief minister Yogi Adityanath suspended Prakash and launched an investigation into the case by Special Task Force.
