Former IPS and Bikaner City Congress president Madan Gopal Meghwal was publicly assaulted on rage over ticket distribution for the ensuing urban bodies elections.
Meghwal is a 2009 batch IPS officer promoted from state police service. He took voluntary retirement in 2018 as Superintendent of Police CID (CB). He contested Lok Sabha election from Bikaner against his cousin and current union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. He lost the election.
He was beaten up by young party workers over issue of ticket distribution. The incident happened when he had gone for the inauguration of Congress candidate Navratan Daga's election office.
During that time, a few young party workers engaged with him on talks and during the course started chanting slogans, “Ticket Chor, ticket Chor”. They unleashed a barrage of blows, putting him down.
Madan Gopal has alleged that he was beaten up by son of Deepak Arora, who is a history sheeter.
Congress leaders have condemned the attack and said that strong punitive action should be taken against attackers.
