CBI arrests judicial member of Income Tax Tribunal in bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has exposed a bribery at Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) in Jaipur. The agency has arrested judicial member Seethalakshmi, advocate Rajendra Singh Sisodiya and one Muzzamel, who was offering bribe. The has sent all the three to remand til November 29, 2025. 

The CBI has recovered Rs 30 lakh from the car of Seethalakshmi, Rs 80 lakh from the residence of Sisodiya, who was earlier caught taking bribe of Rs 5.5 lakh from Muzzamel in Kota. 

So far CBI has seized cash of Rs 1.15 crore in the operation by conducting raids at several locations including Jaipur, Kota.

According to sources,  CBI had received information about Seethalakshmi delivering judgments after taking bribes at the Income Tax Appeal Tribunal of Jaipur. Following that the CBI raided several locations including Jaipur. 

Sources said that CBI has found draft orders in the mobile phone of Rajendra Singh Sisodiya. 

“Seethalakshmi would send draft orders to Rajendra Sisodiya, who would take bribe from the appellants on the basis of draft orders. Once he gets the money, Seethalakshmi would deliver the order,” sources said. 

The CBI is also probing role of Assistant Registrar KC Meena, who is attached to the court of Seethalakshmi. 

How CBI came to know about the case?

CBI had received complaints about this bribery racket three months back. The agency started tracking the activities of the suspects and found solid evidences 10 days back. The agency registered case on November 25, 2025 and arrested Rajendra Singh, who is a former Income Tax Officer. He was sent on compulsory in 2013 following charges. 

What is ITAT? 

ITAT is an independent, quasi-judicial body that hears appeals against orders of the Income Tax department. It functions as the second appellate authority comprising judicial and accountant members and its findings are considered final in tax cases.
