Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay gets six months extension

In a dramatic turn of event, DGP, who was set to retire on June 30, has been granted six months extension in service. Now he will superannuate on December 31, 2025. 

A 1989-batch officer of the Gujarat cadre, Sahay was appointed as the in-charge DGP on 31 January 2023, and was later appointed as the regular DGP in March 2023. 

Sahay is considered as an upright hardworking officer. His tenure as DGP was filled with create challenges like paper leaks in recruitment exams and the recent drive against illegal settlement of Bangladeshi nationals among others.

His previous charges include serving as SP, Anand in 1999, SP, Ahmedabad Rural in 2001, DCP in Ahmedabad in 2002, as DCP in 2004 and Addl CP in 2005 in Ahmedabad's department.

He also served as Addl CP and JCP in Surat City in 2007. He also served as the Deputy General from 2010 to 2016, and then as Director General until 2020 at the Raksha Shakti University. 

Sahay is the recipient of the President's Police Medal this year for his service to the force.
