JDC Anandhi’s prescription for Asthma patients

Development Authority () commissioner has come to the rescue of Asthma patients. 

Following the request of Dr Nishtha Singh, senior chest consultant of Asthma Bhawan, Anandhi has ordered for pruning of Holoptelea (Chilbil) trees in Jaipur. 

“Pollens of Holoptelea trees cause allergy to patients of Bronchitis, Ashthma and other pulmonary diseases. Though the problem is more in the month of February during pollination season, pruning is to be done in November-December,” Anandhi told The .

According to the representation sent to JDA, Dr Nishtha Singh has drawn attention to pollen allergy which could affect more than 2 people suffering from pulmonary diseases including Bronchitis and Asthma. The pollen allergy also causes irritation in eyes and skin. 

In the letter dated March 10, 2025, Dr Singh has requested for pruning of trees during the month of December to combat pollen allergies.

How allergy is caused?

Holoptelea trees (Chilbil tree) can cause allergic reactions and asthma symptoms because its pollen is a common airborne allergen, especially in places like Jaipur during its pollination season from February to April. These symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, wheezing, breathing difficulties, and itchy eyes. 

To manage this, individuals sensitive to the pollen should limit outdoor exposure, cover their nose and mouth with a mask, and stay updated on peak pollen counts.
