The Bihar government has lifted suspension of senior IAS officer Sanjeev Hans, who remained in judicial custody for about a year after ED arrested him in October 2024 in money laundering and corruption.
Hans, considered close to Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is likely to get posting soon. Kumar, after resuming his new innings once again as chief minister lift suspension paving way for Hans' re-deployment in the state government.
Sanjeev Hans was serving as principal secretary energy when ED arrested him.
After almost a year in jail facing ED probe, circumstances to changed in favour of Hans when he got conditional bail from the Patna High Court in October this year. The high court, while granting him bail, had stipulated that he would not go out of the country and would be regularly present in the court during the hearing of the case.
According to Sanjeev Hans' lawyer Dr. Farooq Khan, the court observed several serious flaws during the hearing of the case.
The court held that no concrete evidence was presented by the prosecution to prove that the accused had used the money earned from the offence through financial transactions. On this basis, the court granted bail considering the detention not necessary.
In the same case, the High Court has also granted bail to three other people associated with private companies accused in the alleged bribery and money laundering case related to other tenders including smart metres.
