As many as 22 juvenile delinquents including eight rape accused escaped from a juvenile home in Jaipur. This is for the first time that juvenile delinquents have run away in such a large number by cutting the window net.
The incident is serious as some of the juveniles are facing murder charges also. According to the guard, the incident had happened in the wee hours. As many as 13 boys are facing attempt to murder charges, one is a murder accused while eight are rape accused.
“As soon as we came to know about this, we informed the police control room. The police immediately came and survey the spot,” said one of the guards of the juvenile home.
Police took record of juveniles
Police has taken the record of inmates living in that juvenile home. The police has also informed the police stations near home about the break out.
In the initial investigation, it has been suspected that some outsider has helped them run away from the home. First inmates cut the rod of the window through gas cutter and then cut the net to flee from the spot.
Juveniles have run away earlier also
This is not the first case when juveniles have fled from the home.
“Every year around 6-7 inmates run away from these homes. But no action is taken against the responsible persons. Unless strict action is taken, such incidents are bound to happen,” said a senior official.
Often are victim of sexual abuse
It's has come to light that juveniles who run away are often victim of sexual and physical abuse. These children are lodged in homes for years without trial. Such is the frustration that most of these children become mentally sick.
“They are often subjected to sexual abuse by dominating inmates and sometimes by workers. This put a psychological scar on these children who try to run away from the suffocating environment,” said Dr Pramod Gupta, a social worker engaged with improving mental health of inmates.
