Pratyaya Amrit will be the next chief secretary of Bihar. He will replace the present chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena, who retires this month. He has already been given additional charge of officer on special duty (OSD) in the chief secretary office.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has taken decision on the next chief secretary a month before the retire of Meena putting an end to speculation of extension to the present chief secretary in the wake of upcoming assembly elections.
Pratyaya Amrit, a 1991 batch IAS officer, is a native of Gopalganj district in Bihar. At present, he is holding post of Development Commissioner with additional charge of Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department and the Disaster Management Department. He is considered close to chief minister Nitish Kumar.
He has held important positions in many departments. He has been collector of many districts including Katihar, Chhapra and Saran among others.
He is credited to have put an end to sleaze shows at the famous Sonpur Cattle Fair by making it compulsory for CCTVs to be installed in theatres.
He is also known for carrying out electrification work of villages , streamlining the functioning of the electricity department and building roads and bridges in Bihar.
He had also been on central deputation from 2001-2006 where he served as staff officer in the offices of commerce minister, civil aviation and then food processing minister before returning to home cadre six months before the five-year deputation tenure.
