IAS Alka Tiwari appointed state election commissioner of Jharkhand, takes place of her husband DK Tiwari

Former of Jharkhand Alka Tiwari has been appointed as the immediately after retirement on September 30. The post has been vacant since March 25, 2025 when her husband DK Tiwari retired. 

The tenure of Alka Tiwari will be of four years or till 65 years whichever is earlier. The state government has issued a notification regarding his .

Alka Tiwari has been considered an officer close to chief minister . Now Alka Tiwari will be responsible for conducting elections of local bodies and panchayat in the state. 

Following husband's footsteps

Interestingly, Alka Tiwari seems to be closely following footsteps of her IAS husband DK Tiwari, who is a 1986 batch IAS officer from Jharkhand cadre. DK Tiwari, like Alka Tiwari, was also chief secretary. He was on the post 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020. Later, he was made state elections commissioner on February 1, 2021. Now Alka Tiwari has taken his place as state election commissioner.
