Haryana Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Chandigarh.
A ‘will' and a suicide note were recovered, in which the victim highlighted job-related issues and was facing dissatisfaction.
According to sources, two days ago, an FIR was registered at the Urban Estate police station in Rohtak. This FIR was against the gunman Sushil Kumar of Y Puran Kumar, who was the IG Rohtak range. Sushil Kumar was accused of demanding bribe from a liquor merchant.
Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarania said that Y Puran Kumar's gunman Sushil had demanded a bribe of Rs 2-2.5 lakh from a liquor merchant. Sushil was arrested after an audio clip was found in this regard. During interrogation, Sushil took the name of Y Puran Kumar. The Rohtak police produced Sushil in the court on Tuesday evening and sent him to jail in judicial custody.
According to sources, the alleged statement of Sushil Kumar against him is believed to be the reason for Puran Kumar's suicide.
On September 29, the government removed Puran Kumar from the post of IG Rohtak range and appointed IG in Police Training College (PTC), Sunaria. In the police department, it was being considered a kind of punishment transfer.
According to a press note issued by the Chandigarh administration late in the evening, the police have recovered a will and a final note from the spot. They were seized along with the rest of the evidence.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm in the soundproof basement of Kumar's residence, Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur said. He shot himself in the head with his service revolver while seated on a chair at his house in Sector 11.
Before killing himself, Kumar instructed all his security personnel to leave the premises and then proceeded to the basement, where he sat on a chair and fired the fatal shot.
At the time of the incident, Kumar's wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, was in Japan as part of an official delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
After Y Puran Kumar's wife returns from Japan on October 8, a medical board will be formed and the postmortem will be done.
