Barmer collector Tina Dabi receives President award for rain water harvesting

District Tina Dabi was honoured by President Draupadi Murmu for her outstanding performance in rainwater harvesting and public participation under Catch the Rain. 

Dabi was bestowed with the best award for public participation. 

Barmer district, selected in the first category, was given away a cash prize of Rs 2 crore under the innovative for saving rainwater through tanka construction.

President Draupadi Murmu stressed on prioritising water conservation and its consistent management at the level of central and state governments, district administration, gram panchayats and municipal bodies.

She advised farmers and entrepreneurs to adopt new ways to maximise production while reducing water consumption. Effective water management is possible only with the participation of individuals, families, society and government.

Tina Dabi, while receiving the award, gave credit to the team of administrative officers and personnel of Barmer district. 

She said that this success was achieved due to teamwork. 

“We will make more efforts to achieve the best in the coming time,” she said. 

During the monsoon season, Tina Dabi worked in a mode to construct water harvesting structures and tankas in Barmer district to conserve rain water. Due to that initiative, villagers are using the rainwater for drinking purposes which otherwise used to flow away. 

Under this campaign, lakes, ponds and other water bodies in villages were are revitalised with rainwater harvesting.
