A man posing as an IAS officer and claiming to be an “undercover agent” of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was arrested under Gogri police station limits in Bihar's Khagaria district. Police claim they have unearthed assets worth over Rs 100 crore linked to him.
The accused named Manish Kumar Gupta, also known as Chikku, was arrested after a joint team of the district investigation unit (DIU) and Gogri police raided his premises in Jamalpur Bazar for nearly seven and a half hours on Saturday.
Police allege that Gupta used his fake IAS identity and claimed links with the NSA to deceive people across several districts of the state. He allegedly displayed “IAS” and “Government of India” signboards on his private luxury vehicles to bolster his claims.
During the raid, two luxury vehicles were seized. Both reportedly bore “Government of India” markings. Police are now verifying the ownership documents and the authenticity of the government credentials displayed on the vehicles.
A member of the raiding team reported that the search also yielded approximately 31 litres of foreign liquor, including a bottle reportedly valued at over Rs 1 lakh. Furthermore, a separate case has been registered against him under the Excise and Prohibition Act.
During the search, officials were surprised to find deer and Barasingha antlers. Five Apple mobile phones, 20 credit cards, eight debit cards, four cheque books and other documents were also recovered from the premises.
The police is now investigating the source of Gupta's alleged wealth, his properties and vehicles, and the documents and government identifiers recovered during the raid. They are also verifying the authenticity of the seized vehicles' government markings.
The district police have requested the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the state police to investigate Gupta's assets acquired through unlawful means. Luxury cars have been seized and are currently parked at the Gogri police station.
