ED raids premises of IAS Gyanendra Gangwar, who reportedly went missing a day before

A day after IAS Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, was reported to have been traced at his hometown in Uttar Pradesh following missing report, Directorate of Enforcement (ED) officials, on Sunday, reportedly raided his residential premises in Bengaluru and   in connection with its money laundering probe into alleged irregularities in an examination conducted by the Public Service (KPSC), officials said.

Gangwar, a 2016 batch IAS officer is currently serving as Director MSME in industries department. He had served as the Controller of Examinations at the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) when the controversial veterinary officer recruitment examination was conducted.

The examination has come under the ED's scanner following allegations of large-scale irregularities and claims that candidates were asked to pay huge sums of money.

It has been alleged that candidates were asked to pay between Rs 70 and Rs 80 lakh for selection through middlemen.

The ED had earlier conducted searches at several locations in connection with the case, including the residence of former KPSC chairman Shivashankarappa Sahukar and premises linked to veterinary officers.

The ED officials conducted raids at his home at Bengaluru and in his native place simultaneously but reports suggest that Gangwar was not present at both the places. His phone was said to be switched off.

On Saturday, rumours went on overdrive stating that Gangwar had gone missing with the fear of ED raids in connection with the paper leak. Karnataka Priyank Kharge, who first acknowledged his missing after Gangwar boarded a Delhi flight, later stated that he (Gangwar) had gone to met his ailing father.

The ED raids don't comply involvement of Gangwar in the paper leak case. However, it must have added to his woes.

“There is no confirmation of him involved in the paper leak scam. However, he being Examination Controller needed to be examined,” said an ED official.
