Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar is set to be the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the state.
His name has been agreed upon in a meeting between Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.
The post of Chief Information Commissioner is important in the State Information Commission, which plays a key role in the hearing and appeal process of cases related to the provision of information under the Right to Information i.e. RTI Act.
Vinay Kumar, a 1990 batch IPS officer is currently the DGP of Bihar. In September 2026, he went on a three weeks long leave. He is currently on a two-year extension of service, which will end on December 12, 2026.
Apart from that, Anjani Kumar Singh has been made the Information Commissioner of the Bihar State Information Commission. With his appointment, Singh's name has been added to the officials who have assumed new responsibilities in the commission. Anjani Kumar Singh is known for his long experience in the administrative service and will now have a role in handling the Right to Information (RTI) cases.
