The conflict between two senior IRS officers in Lucknow has come out in open bulldozing the integrity and discipline of eminent service like Income Tax.
Following the brutal assault on 2016 batch deputy commissioner of Income Tax Gaurav Garg, the alleged accused Yogendra Mishra – two batches senior to Garg – has come out in public through posts on X defending his stand.
Gaurav Garg, husband of IPS officer Raveena Tyagi, is recuperating in Civil hospital with severe injuries on head and nose.
Playing the victim card, Mishra said that he had been facing extreme harassment, character assassination, and false police complaints are being orchestrated against him.
Mishra alleged that the root cause the violent altercation dated back to 2022 when he (Mishra) succeeds Gaurav Garg in Kanpur.
“I reported serious lapses in tax investigations during his tenure. This led to his animosity and a sustained vendetta against me, now weaponized through police and media, Mishra alleged in a post on X.
Garg circulated concocted video to defame Mishra
People were speculating that the dispute at the departmental cricket tournament in which Mishra was now allowed to play, could be the reason behind the violent altercation. Mishra, however clarified that the minor dispute at the cricket tournament was amicably resolved with apologies from all sides.
“Yet, months later, a distorted video of this settled incident was leaked to by Gaurav Garg through his IPS wife to a blackmailer journalist to malign my reputation,” he alleged.
He alleged that the old video was circulated on Twitter by a journalist, who then attempted to blackmail him for ₹50,000. He claimed that the evidence of this blackmail, including chat logs, has been submitted to authorities.
Mishra further posted that following that video, on March 30, 2025, he was abruptly transferred from Lucknow to Kashipur.
“The transfer order was circulated to the media before even being officially issued to me—a clear violation of protocol,” he complained.
Mishra visited Garg to formally request for answer to RTI
Mishra posted that he filed an RTI on April 28, 2025 seeking the official basis for his transfer.
“No response was provided by Gaurav Garg, who is also the CPIO. My visit to CIT (Admin) on 29.05.2025 was to formally request this information,” he said.
Mishra said that Garg became aggressive unprovoked and started abusing him in front of senior officers.
“Tere jaisa vakil bana phirta hai na, abhi teri saari jurisprudence nikal ke rakh dunga,” Garg reportedly misbehaved with Mishra using vulgar Punjabi abuses and in the heat of the moment physically attacked Mishra.
Mishra claimed that he did not retaliate, and the entire incident was captured on CCTV and witnessed by multiple senior officers.
“Yet, a false counter-narrative is being spread online to portray me as the aggressor,” he said.
Mishra has also filed a counter FIR with the Commissioner of Police, Lucknow providing evidence—CCTV, witness statements, and records.
“I urge authorities to conduct a fair, evidence based enquiry before entertaining any malicious or frivolous FIR against me “ he said.
