A state civil services officer of Uttar Pradesh – Alankar Agnihotri – who is serving as City Magistrate of Bareilly – has resigned from his post protesting against the new law of UGC and thrashing of disciples of Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda.
The 2019 batch PCS officer, Agnihotri chose Republic Day to resign from his services.
On Monday evening at around 7.30 pm, the city magistrate reached to meet DM Avinash Singh at his residence. On coming out, the city magistrate said,
“I was held hostage for 20 minutes at the DM residence. Amid flurry of abuses they said that I had gone crazy and told to keep mehostage there. but I had already informed SP about that. So when he (SP) called up, they let me out,” Agnihotri said.
He said that he was asked from Lucknow to vacate his house within two hours. A tent was set up at his government residence. The police have removed the tent.

Agnihotri writes 5-page letter
He also wrote a 5-page letter in which he wrote that disciples of Shankaracharya were held by their hair during the Prayagraj Magh fair.
“Such an incident shakes any ordinary Brahmin from within. It seems that the administration and the present government are working against the Brahmins and saints. Their honour is being played with. There is no one to talk about Brahmins,” he wrote.
