Punjab chief minister seeks increase in minimum support price () for Kharif 2024 to benefit farmers

In a bid to support farmers ahead of the 2024 Kharif season, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann submitted a proposal to the on Thursday, suggesting minimum support prices (MSP) for 25 Kharif crops in the state.

The proposal emphasises a demand for a payment of Rs 3,284 for rice in the upcoming season. This comes after chief minister Mann previously announced an increment of Rs 11 in the minimum support price for sugarcane, a decision made following widespread protests by hundreds of farmers.

Approval for Rs 11 hike in sugarcane

The chief minister Mann received approval for the Rs 11 hike in the minimum support price for sugarcane. Consequently, the state-set price for sugarcane has been increased from Rs 380 to Rs 391 per quintal.

As the farming community eagerly awaits the central 's response to the proposed MSP, these initiatives by Punjab government reflect the commitment to the welfare of farmers and the overall of Punjab.
