Bharatpur collector Qummer Ul Zaman Choudhary came to rescue of water resources minister Suresh Rawat, who was surrounded by angry villagers and BJP workers demanding action against young RAS officer Dhara, who is serving as SDM Uchchain.
The crowd bogged down Rawat at a school where he was the chief guest in a function commemorating the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram”.
The unruly crowd cornered Rawat and started shouting slogans. Just then collector Choudhary came and escorted the minister safely to his car.
What was the issue?
BJP workers and villagers were agitated over the behaviour of SDM Dhara, a 2024 batch RAS officer, who has been posted four times within a year.
On November 5, Dhara held a night chaupal n the village Fatehpur. During that chaupal, women complained to the SDM about problems related to electricity, water, and roads. Later when Dhara was leaving the village, Panchayat Samiti member Dinesh Bhatra along with the village women stopped the SDM's vehicle. Local police then had to control the situation and rescued the SDM from village.
However, on November 5, SDM filed an FIR against Panchayat Samiti member Dinesh Bhatra at the Uchchain police station, which enraged the local MLA Jagat Singh, who wrote a letter to the Chief Minister demanding her removal.
Rawat assures appropriate action
Minister Rawat said that if SDM has done any wrong, then action should be taken against her. The workers have been asked to work with restraint.
“As the minister in charge I will take whatever action is appropriate and just. met with our Panchayat Samiti members, district ministers, and some party workers. They are saying that the SDM has filed a case against a worker,” the minister said.
