BJP removes IPS tag from former Kerala DGP Sreelekha’s posters following objection

The State (SEC) of on Wednesday directed for the removal of the “IPS” tag from the posters of former Director General of Police (DGP) R Sreelekha, who is contesting as the from the Sasthamangalam ward in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections.

Sreelekha, a 1987 batch IPS officer, who retired as Director General of Police, is being projected by the BJP as its mayoral candidate for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

The action was the outcome of a complaint filed by candidate T. S. Rashmi, who argued that it is illegal to use “IPS” alongside Sreelekha's name after her retirement from service.

Following the complaint, the “IPS” title printed next to former DGP (R) Sreelekha's name has been removed from BJP campaign materials.

While her posters and flex boards earlier displayed either ‘IPS', the writings on the wall featured ‘IPS (Retd)'. The nameboard in front of her election office now displays only her name.

Undeterred by the removal of the ‘IPS' tag from posters, Sreelekha said that the action would not impact her campaign.

“People in Kerala know who I am,” she said.
