United Nations Organisation (UNO) has invited Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata samiti (BMVSS) for giving presentation on the welfare of the disabled by the at its New York Headquarters on Tuesday.
BMVSS is the world's leading organisation for the rehabilitation of the disabled and the maker of the world-famous Jaipur Foot.
Founder and the Chief Patron of the BMVSS DR Mehta and the president of the BMVSS Satish Mehta will give the presentations in the two proposed sessions in which permanent representatives of various nations and other distinguished persons will be present.
BMVSS has special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the UNO and seven years ago the United Nations organized a special meeting of the Permanent Representatives of various members nations to showcase Jaipur Foot which in recent years has held 114 special camps in various countries in association with the Ministry of external Affairs (MEA) and rehabilitated over 50,000 disabled persons of 44 countries.
United Nations, which is holding the seminar to discuss the various issues related to the disabled has specially invited BMVSS because of the massive work undertaken by it both in India and abroad and rehabilitated 2.4 million persons with disabilities.
The BMVSS offers artificial limbs and other aids and appliances free of charge to the disabled that has made this organization earn respect and popularity the world over.
D R Mehta would stress on the various means to rehabilitate the disabled as per the standards of World Health Organization (WHO), which states that 15 percent of the world's population is affected by various disabilities and there is an urgent need for finding a solution for their rehabilitation.
On Wednesday, the India's Permanent Representatives in the United Nations, P. Harish is holding another meeting in New York in which the Permanent representatives of various nations would be apprised on the initiative taken by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) under the “India For Humanities” for rehabilitating the disabled of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The India For Humanities Programme are jointly run by the MEA and the BMVSS in which special camps are organized in various countries to rehabilitate the disabled. This Programme has earned India great goodwill globally.
Last year the past President of the United nation General Assembly Dennis Francis specially visited the BMVSS Centre to know the manufacturing process of the Jaipur Foot and had said that the Jaipur Foot is the Gift of India to the world.
