High Court’s ultimatum to government : take decision on SI Recruitment Exam by May 26

Taking a firm stand, Rajasthan High Court warned government to take a decision on SI Recruitment -2021 paper leak case by May 26, 2025.

Justice Sameer Jain, while hearing the case, said that if a decision is not taken by the government, those involved in the process may have to face consequences.

Earlier, the state government's Additional Advocate General Vigyan Shah (AAG) moved the plea in the court stating that the government had called a meeting of the sub-committee on May 13 to decide on the recruitment.

However, many ministers could not attend the meeting due to Operation Sindoor while one minister of the committee could not arrive due to him being unwell. 

“Now the government will hold meeting of the sub-committee on May 21. Whatever is decided, the court will be informed,” Shah said. 

In the previous hearing, the Additional Advocate General in the High Court had said that the government had not reached on any conclusion yet. On this, Justice Sameer Jain's court had said that the court is giving one last chance to the government, which should inform its decision by May 15. 

On February 21, 2025, the High Court had given the government two months to take a decision on SI recruitment.

What petitioners want?

In this case, besides petitioners, state government and trainee SI are parties. The petitioners want to get the complete recruitment cancelled citing large scale paper leak in the exam. 

The SOG, which investigated the case, police head quarter, advocate general and cabinet sub committee, all have recommended cancellation of the exam while trainee sub inspectors  want to retain the recruitment as they say that all are not involved into paper leak. 

“We have quit other government to take up this job. if the recruitment is cancelled it will be injustice to us,” they said.

What State government has done so far?

Soon after coming into power, the government has set up an SIT led by police V K Singh. The police so far a has arrested 103 people including 51 trainee sub-inspectors in connection with paper leak. The government has also put passing out parade and appointment of this batch on hold till further orders.
