Ahead of assembly elections in Bihar, Dinesh Kumar Rai, a 2010 batch IAS officer and close confidante of chief minister has taken voluntary retirement. He was scheduled to retire in January 2026.
It is widely believed that he will contest election from an assembly constituency in Shahabad district in Janta Dal United ticket.
Rai, promoted from Bihar Administrative Service in 2022, was serving as secretary, department of revenue and land reforms. He had also worked in chief minister officer.
Rai had applied for voluntary retirement on June 13, 2025. The government has granted voluntary retirement with effect from July 15, 2025.
Talks about his candidature in the coming assembly election came about when he reviewed a rousing welcome at his home district Rohtas. It was claimed that his convoy consisted of more than 1000 vehicles and thousands of people were part of the felicitation ceremony.
