In a bizarre incident, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS-Income Tax) officer of 2016 batch Gaurav Garg, serving as deputy commissioner in Income Tax, was assaulted at his own office in Lucknow by another IRS officer Yogendra Mishra, who is serving as joint director in Income Tax department.
Garg is admitted in Civil Hospital Lucknow after he sustained injury on head following scuffle with Mishra. It is alleged that Mishra hit Garg with paper weight and glass tumbler on his head.
Gaurav Garg is husband of 2014-batch IPS Raveena Tyagi, who is serving in Lucknow as deputy commissioner of police.
What is the case?
Gaurav Garg and Yogendra Mishra entered into scuffle over some dispute.
The fight took ugly turn when Mishra hit Garg allegedly with water glass and paper weight, which resulted into injuries to Garg.
According to sources, the reason behind the scuffle could be the ongoing enquiry against Yogendra Mishra. It is said that Mishra had approached Garg to manipulate the enquiry in his favour. Garg refused to act in Mishra's favour and that resulted into a bloody fight which left Garg bleeding.

What is the enquiry about?
According to sources, Yogendra Mishra is facing a departmental enquiry. In March this year, Mishra had interrupted the North Zone Zonal Sports League semi-final of a departmental cricket tournament protesting hai exclusion from the team.
He lied down on the cricket pitch and is said to have abused all senior and junior officials for not including him in the team.
Later Mishra left the pitch only after being warned that he would face a charge sheet for his disruptive behaviour.
On a formal complaint from the Lucknow Income Tax cricket team, a departmental enquiry is being conducted.
“Probably Mishra wanted Garg to give statement in his favour. Garg might have decided otherwise. That may have resulted into fight between the two,” said an official.
Yogendra Mishra had shown aggression earlier also
Mishra is said to have a past of misbehaviour with colleagues and seniors. Mishra had entered into verbal duel with a lady officer when he was posted in Agra. He used to intimate colleagues telling them of his close relations with senior bureaucrats and judges.
“Many senior officers have left official WhatsApp group due to his aggressive and loose comments,” said an IRS officer.
