Kerala ADGP and former Excise Commissioner Mahipal Yadav died at a private hospital in Jaipur – days before his retirement on August 31.
Mahipal was diagnosed with brain tumour recently following which he went back to Rajasthan for treatment and joining his family.
A native of Alwar, Mahipal was recently transferred as ADGP Crimes. But he was reluctant to join a new wing towards the fag end of the career. Following his request, he was allowed to continue as Excise Commissioner until he went on leave after his health deteriorated. He was on treatment for a brain tumour.
A 1997 batch IPS officer, Yadav had handled high-profile cases like the AgustaWestland VVIP helicopter scandal and the inquiry into Mulayam Singh Yadav's assets during his CBI stint.
A post-graduate in veterinary science, his first posting was at Kayamkulam subdivision as the Assistant Superintendent of Police.
He is a recipient of the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2013) which was awarded during his deputation with the CBI for his contribution to nationally significant investigations. He also received the President's Police Medal for distinguished service (Republic Day, 2024) which was conferred in recognition of his long and exemplary service to the nation.
Yadav also served the Inspector General (IG), Internal Security, IG Coastal Police, IG Training, Kerala Police Academy, IG Crimes, IG Kannur range and IG BSF.
