Jail Superintendent of Ludhiana Central Jail Kulwant Siddhu suffered head injury after a scuffle broke out between inmates at the Central Jail this evening.
Siddhu was rushed to a private hospital – Akai Hospital -where he is undergoing treatment.
The chairman of the Akai Hospital Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh said that Siddhu was hit on his head by brick or stone.
“We have done the surgery. We are doing X ray. His condition is stable,” he said.
As per preliminary information, police personnel from three police stations rushed to the jail to bring the situation under control.
Security within and around the prison has been tightened, and senior officials have been informed of the incident.
Sources said the situation is now under control, though tension continues to prevail inside the jail. Further details regarding the condition of the injured and the sequence of events are awaited.
Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has sought a full report on the situation from the jail authorities. Senior officials, including police commissioner Swapna Sharma, are present in the jail premises and the situation is being monitored.
