In a shocking incident, wife of an Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer fell victim to digital arrest losing ₹ 7.5 lakh to the miscreants who posed as CBI officer.
Ruchi Mathur (48), who is wife of RAS officer Hemant Swaroop Mathur serving as additional registrar in Revenue Board Ajmer, received a call from an unknown number. The caller told Ruchi Mathur, who is a professor of home science at Sophia College in Ajmer, that message related to sexual harassment has been sent from a mobile number issued in her name.
Ruchi Mathur denied the allegation and told miscreant that the complaint is baseless. The caller then threatened Mathur of lodging FIR and told her the she was the main accused in the court case being contested in the Supreme Court.
To intensify the fear and mout more pressure on Mathur, the caller made Ruchi talk over video call to one Daya Naik who claimed to be a CBI officer.
Under immense pressure and out of fear, Ruchi Mathur transferred ₹7.5 lakh to an account number furnished by the miscreant.
Later Ruchi Mathur informed her husband Hemant Swaroop Mathur, who lodged complaint on cyber helpline number 1930. The police is investing the case.
