Rajasthan government announced the launch of Solar Park to be developed at Pugal in Bikaner for generating 2,450 MW of solar power capacity and a 1,250 MW/5,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
The solar and battery storage project – largest in the country – is likely to attract an investment of Rs 16,000 crore.
Rajasthan energy minister Heera Lal Nagar said that the project is a crucial step toward achieving energy self-reliance for Rajasthan and India.
“The battery storage system will store solar energy generated during the day and ensure stable power supply during the night,” he said.
He said the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RERC), the nodal agency for renewable energy, launched a new online portal facilitating registration, connectivity applications, and progress tracking for solar-wind hybrid and renewable energy park projects—offering a unified platform for investors and developers.
“The state government's vision has not only to boosted electricity generation but also ensured clean energy reaches every household, contributing to India's Net Zero 2070 goals,” he said.
Rajasthan energy secretary Ajitabh Sharma detailed major accomplishments in the energy sector and elaborated on the critical role of battery storage alongside solar power.
He highlighted the significance of the Pugal Solar Park project in meeting state energy demands and shared key investment insights for potential investors.
Renewable Energy Corporation CMD Rohit Gupta presented a comprehensive overview of the upcoming plans for the Pugal Solar Park, engaging with investors and developers by addressing their queries and inviting suggestions to ensure project success.
The event provided a transparent, competitive, and investor-friendly platform for dialogue between the government, investors, and technical experts.
