Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Limited (RIICO), nodal agency for industrial development in Rajasthan, is planning to create a new Environment Management cadre hiring environment scientists and horticulturists. These expert-officers would be handling plantation and environmental issues in RIICO industrial areas.
In the recent board meeting, RIICO has recommended creating a special Environment Management cadre comprising Environment Management Cell and Horticulture Cell.
RIICO already has an Environment expert as Senior Deputy General Manager – Prasputita Nanda. She has been serving the cause of environment protection in the corporation. She is an officer of Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, currently on deputation to RIICO.
The board has recommended having one post each of Additional General Manager and Senior Deputy General Manager (DGM), two posts of DGM and four posts of Manager for the Environment Management cell.
For the Horticulture cell, the board has proposed having one post of Manager, three posts of Deputy Manager and seven posts of Supervisors.
“Currently the Civil cadre of RIICO is looking after the environment and plantation issues in industrial areas,” said a senior official.
The board has sent the proposal to state government for financial approval of these posts.
Why separate cadre for Environment Management was needed?
For last few years, the issues of climate change, environment protection and ecological balance are at the forefront where industrial or mining operations are underway. While RIICO is adding new industrial zones, needs for environment engineers and scientists have been felt.
“For a wholistic development of state, environment protection is paramount. We need specialists to take care of environment norms while the state trudges the path of industrial development,” said a senior official.
The cell will have the mandate to keep any eye on polluting industries and adopt and ensure implementation of best industry practices for pollution control.
