IPS Ashok Rathore, Malini Agarwal promoted to DG rank

IPS officers – Ashok Kumar Rathore and , both from 1994 batch – have been promoted to the rank of director general of police (DG), with the new designation taking effect from July 1, 2025. 

The two officers, however shall continue to work on their respective present post till further orders, the order said.

Rathore is currently serving as ADG (). In the past, he held key posts, including chief of the Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). He also served as commissioner of Police and as ADG (Vigilance).

Malini Agarwal is currently posted as ADG (Civil Rights and Anti-Human Trafficking), with additional charge as director general and commandant general of Home Guards.

Ashok Rathore was due to be promoted against the routine vacancy created by the superannuation of Ravi Prakash Meharda, who retires on June 30. Meharda is serving DG ACB with additional charge of DGP. 

Malini Agarwal gets chance to be promoted following the appointment of former DGP Utkal Ranjan Sahoo as of Rajasthan Public Service Commission. The appointment created additional vacancy in the DG rank post. Currently, there are 7 officers serving as DG. Meharda will retire today. Other senior IPS officers –  Rajeev Sharma, Rajesh Nirwan and Rajesh Arya – are on central deputation. 

First DG couple of Rajasthan

Malini Agarwal is married to Sanjay Agarwal, who is a 1992 batch IPS officer of Rajasthan. He is the top contender for the post of Director General of Police.

This is for the first time a couple would be serving together on the DG post in the state. Malini Agarwal is also the  second woman IPS in Rajasthan to attain the DG post after Nina Singh, a 1989 batch officer who superannuated as the first woman DG of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). 

Rathore's wife is also a senior IAS officer – – serving as principal secretary medical and health department. She is a 1997 batch IAS officer.
