Bhilwara collector Jasmeet Sandhu issues gag order on farewell and retirement celebrations

In one of its kind directives, Bhilwara Jasmeet Singh Sandhu has issued gag order on any kind of farewell celebration for retirements of officials during office hours. 

In an order dated July 31, 2025, Sandhu has prohibited use of dhol-nagada and blaring music which cause sound pollution. The order stated that such celebrations interfere with the routine working of offices. 

“If any such activities are organised during office hours, appropriate action will be taken against the concerned people,” the order stated.

The order has evoked mixed reactions from staff and officers. While some staff members appreciated the order saying that such celebrations should be private affair, organised after office hour, some say that farewell party is part of culture and is a tribute to the outgoing staff which has contributed prime time of his life in public service.

“This is just a token of respect and appreciation for retiring officers, who have invested their youth in public service,” said president of staff union Shambhu Singh Rathore. 

Who is Jasmeet Singh Sandhu?

Jasmeet Singh Sandhu is a 2016 batch officer. He had been collector of Phalodi and Salumber before taking over as Bhilwara collector in January 2025. His wife Artika Shukla, also from 2016 batch, is serving as collector . Both are considered as upright and effective officers. 

An graduate, Sandhu has been recipient of several national governance awards for his innovative and pathbreaking work. He received national award for empowerment of persons with disabilities -2024 while serving as Salumber district collector. He also received award for cleanliness when he was CEO District Council Jaipur.
