Even as urban development minister Jhabar Singh Kharra claimed that the government will hold elections of all 309 local bodies in one go, the state recruit commission is unlikely to accomplish to the task.
Kharra said that the government is prepared to conduct the election in one go.
“We have competed the redemarkartion of municipal limits and have also issued gazzette notification. Now the ball is in election commission's court, how it plans to organise as per government's motto,” he said.
According o sources in state election commission, conducting elections of all 309 local bodies looks a distant dream.
“As of now it doesn't look possible. There are not enough EVM machines and other paraphrenalia needed for conducting such a mega election. We don't think election can be held in one go,” sources said.
The BJP Rajasthan government has been contemplating one state one election since its formation in last December. It is looking to organise panchayat election as well as local bodies elections at one go under one state one election.
“It's an ambitious plan. There is no preparedness for this. Though government has appointed outgoing sarpanch as administrators in gram panchayats where elections are due,” the source said.
