‘Brain drain’ continues in Rajasthan bureaucracy

As many as 21 IAS officers from Rajasthan cadre are serving on central in New Delhi. Two more officers – and Inderjeet Singh – too are going soon. While Inderjeet Singh has got the posting as director in union ministry of culture, KK Pathak, who has been empanelled for joint secretary level post is awaiting his appointment. Pathak is currently serving as secretary in department of personnel. 

Inderjeet Singh, a 2010 batch officer, will have Gajendra Singh Shekhawat as his minister at centre. Shekhawat also has tourism in his portfolio. Inderjeet Singh has been collector of Jodhpur from where Shekhawat is member of parliament. 

Inderjeet Singh's wife Neha Giri, who is also 2010 batch officer, is likely to go to Delhi along her husband. Neha Giri had gone on a year long leave when Inderjeet Singh went for Master's degree course on public policy (MPP) at University of Princeton, New Jersey. 

Shekhawat has another key officer in tourism minister from Rajasthan cadre. Mugdha Sinha, a 1999 batch officer, is serving as managing director of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). 

Among IAS officers from Rajasthan cadre serving at centre, three officers – V Srinivas (1989 batch), Rajat Mishra (1992 batch) and (1993 batch) are serving as secretaries. While Srinivas is taking care of department of administrative reforms and public grievances, Rajat Kumar Mishra is serving as secretary in the department of fertiliser. 

Tanmay Kumar, who is a 1993 batch officer is serving as secretary in environment, forest and climate change. A batch junior to him Naresh Pal Gangwar is serving as additional secretary in the ministry. 

Their minister Bhupendra Yadav is also from Rajasthan. He is member of parliament from Alwar. 

Roli Singh, a 1994 batch officer is serving as additional secretary in the department of health and family welfare where Sudhansh Pant was secretary before coming back to cadre as chief secretary. 

Rajeev Singh Thakur, who is 1995 batch IAS officer, after completing 7 years of deputation tenure, continues to serve in centre as adviser in Niti Aayog at the level of additional secretary. 

Rohit Kumar, 1997 batch officer is currently serving as additional secretary in cabinet secretariat. He went on central deputation in September 2018 as joint secretary rural development. His tenure of 7 years is completing next month. He may have to repatriate to home cadre. 

Ashutosh Pednekar, a 2002 batch, went on central deputation in June this year. He is serving as joint secretary in the ministry of labour and employment. Bhanu Prakash Yeturu, a 2003 batch officer, also went in June this year to serve as deputy election commissioner in the election up commission of India. 

Pritam B Yashvant, another 2003 batch officer, is currently serving as joint secretary in ministry of women and child development. He is on central deputation since January 2023. 

There are officers in 2003 batch, out of which three are on central deputation. Only Krishna Kunal and Niraj K Pawan are serving in cadre. The third officer, who is on central deputation is Siddharth Mahajan. He is serving as joint secretary in department of commerce. He went on deputation in November 2021 as joint secretary in Lok Sabha secretariat. Later he moved to commerce ministry in March 2024. 

Gaurav Goyal, a 2006 batch officer is now serving as joint secretary in Lok Sabha secretariat. He is on deputation since August 2024. 

Purna Chandra Kishan, 2005 batch officer, is currently serving as joint secretary in department of agriculture and farmers welfare concern August 2024. Another IAS officer from Rajasthan Muktanand Agrawal, who is 2008 batch officer, is serving in the agriculture ministry as , pradhan mantri fasal bima yojana. He is on deputation since 2022. He first served as director in the agriculture ministry. 

Bishnu Charan Mallick, a 2007 batch officer, is serving as director of census operations for Rajasthan in ministry of home affairs. Though his scope of work is related to Rajasthan, he is technically under central deputation. He has been away from state since December 2020. 

Prakash Rajpurohit, a 2010 batch officer is currently serving as director in department of economic affairs, ministry of finance. Before going on deputation in April 2025, Rajpurohit was serving as commissioner commercial taxes in state government. 

Abhimanyu Kumar, a 2011 batch officer, is currently serving as private secretary to union home minister Amit Shah. He is placed at one of the most powerful positions. Kumar is on deputation since January 2022. He was first posted as deputy secretary in commerce ministry. Later in July 2024 in the second term of NDA government he was hand picked as private secretary to the second most powerful person on Modi government.

Bhagwati Prasad Kalal, a 2011 batch officer, is currently serving as director in department of school education and literacy at centre. 

Ashish Gupta, a 2013 batch officer, is currently serving as joint director in National Testing Agency, department of higher education at Delhi. His batchmate Ansh Deep is also on central deputation serving as deputy secretary in ministry of home affairs.
