Amid controversy surrounding the increasing pollution and smog in Delhi, senior IAS officer Nandini Paliwal has been appointed as the secretary to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena with immediate effect.
An official order in this regard has been issued by the Services Department of the Delhi Government. According to the order, Nandini Paliwal has been relieved of all her existing duties and has been assigned the new responsibility in the Lieutenant Governor's Secretariat. She will take charge from December 24.
Who is Nandini Paliwal after all?
Actually, Nandini Paliwal is a 2003 batch IAS officer and belongs to the AGMUT cadre. Prior to this, she was working as Commissioner Trade and Taxes in the Delhi Government. In his current tenure, she took charge of the important department related to trade and TAX.
Nandini has been at important positions
Even before this, Nandini Paliwal has served at many major positions. She has been Secretary in the Department of Higher Education and Technical Training and has also held the responsibility of Managing Director of Delhi Cooperative Housing Finance Corporation (DCHFC). She has a deep understanding of administrative matters. Given her experience in different fields, she has now been assigned a big and important role in the Lieutenant Governor's Secretariat.
Rounds of accusations and counter-accusations continue
The appointment has come at a time when the round of accusations and counter-accusations is once again going on in Delhi politics. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has written a 15-page letter to former chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, directly blaming him for the pollution. The LG has said in the letter that the emergency-like situation in Delhi is the result of 11 years of neglect and criminal inaction by your government.
Accusing Kejriwal of messing with the health of Delhi residents, he also said that after being out of power, the channels of communication were closed, which further worsened the situation.
After this, the Aam Aadmi Party also counterattacked. The Aam Aadmi Party has hit back at Kejriwal's letter on pollution. AAP has alleged that the LG is leaving Delhi in a state of severe pollution and travelling in Gujarat and doing lettering to stay in the discussion. Because even their government is not listening to them. The party questioned whether the LG should tell when they will seek an answer from the Rekha Gupta government on Delhi's pollution. He also alleged that the BJP government has completely failed to curb pollution. Therefore, letters are being written from LG to divert people's attention. The secretary has now been appointed.
