Anindita Mitra, a 2007 batch IAS officer has been appointed as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab. She replaced Sibin C, who has proceeded on central deputation as a joint secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Interestingly, Anindita's husband, S Karuna Raju, also served as the CEO of Punjab before Sibin C was chosen as the CEO in 2023.
Raju, a 1998 batch IAS officer is currently serving as chief vigilance officer (CVO)for Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) in Visakhapatnam, a role he took charge of in December 2022. He is also holding the rank of Joint Secretary.
As per the notification issued by the Election Commission of India, she will cease to hold and hand over her current responsibilities under the Government of Punjab before assuming charge as CEO. She currently holds the charge of Secretary Education, Punjab.
According to sources, the state government had sent three names to the Centre for appointment as CEO, Punjab, which included Ramvir and Sonali Giri as other two officers.
