IAS KK Pant appointed as Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary

Senior IAS officer Kamlesh Kumar Pant has been given charge of Chief of Himachal Pradesh government. Pant currently holds the dual role of additional chief secretary and financial commissioner.

Pant will also continue to serve as the additional chief secretary (Revenue, Forest, Home and Vigilance) and of the state pollution board, as per a notification issued here.

The post of chief secretary fell vacant after superannuation of Sanjay Gupta. Gupta had been given the additional charge of chief secretary on October 1, 2025, and was elevated to the regular chief secretary position on May 26, 2026, just five days before his retirement.

Pant, a 1993 batch IAS officer, is a BTech graduate from the IIT-Kanpur. He is due to retire in December 2030. He still has more than four years of service left. 

Earlier, Pant served as chairperson of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) in New Delhi from 2021 to 2024. He also held the position of chief vigilance officer (CVO) at the National Highways Authority of India () and was a Joint Secretary (Defence ).
