Sanjay Jaju, a 1992 batch IAS officer, who has been repatriated from the centre, has been named next Chief Secretary of Telangana.
Jaju will replace K. Ramakrishna Rao, who is set to retire on June 30, 2026. Rao has been appointed as advisor and ex-officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister upon his retirement.
Jaju before repatriation was serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North East Region. He was on the Central deputation for more than 15 years.
Why Jaju was made Chief Secretary?
Besides Jaju, two of his batchmates Jayesh Ranjan and Vikas Raj were also in the contention for Chief Secretary. However, Jaju was given preference as he was away from state administration since 15 years. So he didn't have any affiliation wit the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government.
Apart from that, Jaju was given preference over other two as he has more years to serve. While Jayesh Ranjan is scheduled to retire from service in September 2027. Vikas Raj will attain the age of superannuation by the end of February 2028.
Jaju on the other hand, will retire at the end of February 2029, the time by which the next assembly elections in the State would be completed and a new Government will be in place.
In the orders issued on Friday, the Government said Jaju would hold full additional charge (FAC) as Special Chief Secretary to Industries & Commerce; Information Technology(IT); CEO of the Industry & Investment Cell in Chief Minister's Office (CMO) and Smart Proactive, Efficient and Effectively Delivery (SPEED).
The 1992-batch officer has contributed immensely to the development of Information Technology and its applications in governance in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.
