From Secretariat to Silver Screen: IAS Ashwani Kumar debuts in film Devyani

For an actor to play a role of an officer is not an asking task. But for an IAS officer to plunge in acting, demands too much. But not for Ashwani Kumar, a 2010 batch officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, who is making his acting debut in a film Devyani – a movie revolves around father-daughter relationship with focus on women empowerment.

Kumar is currently serving as to the Assam 's Information Technology Department and of DITEC.

Kumar finds cinema as a strong medium to fulfil his mission of social welfare.

The film explores the bond between a father and his daughter and uses the intimate setting of a family to address larger questions concerning women's safety, dignity, empowerment and the need for changing social attitudes.

He portrays a character that resonates with the larger themes of his administrative career, particularly the importance of empathy, dignity and empowerment.

“I would urge people to watch ‘Devyani' with an open mind. If the film makes even one family think differently about the way we look at daughters and women's strength, I would consider the effort worthwhile,” Kumar said.
