Suspended trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy, who was arrested for sexually assaulting a female trainee at Police Academy, has got a relief from the Telangana High Court.
The High Court has set aside an order of a lower court, permitting the investigating officer to subject him to a potency test in connection with a sexual assault case involving a co-trainee woman IPS officer.
Justice J. Srinivas Rao allowed the criminal petition filed by Uday Krishna Reddy and set aside the order dated August 17, 2026, passed by the III Additional Junior Civil Judge-cum-XXV Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class, Ranga Reddy district, Rajendranagar, which had permitted the investigating officer to subject Uday Krishna to a potency examination under Section 52 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
As part of the investigation into the allegations against Uday Krishna Reddy in the assault case, the investigators decided to subject him to potency test. They secured a direction from the Third Additional Junior Civil Judge-cum XXV Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class at Rajendranagar to conduct potency test.
Challenging this lower court order, the trainee IPS officer filed the criminal petition. The judge observed that the application filed by the prosecution in the case was not in consonances with the principles laid down in the verdicts of Madras and Karnataka High Courts in similar cases. The order also noted that another criminal petition filed by the trainee officer seeking to quash the First Information Report against him was pending for adjudication before the HC.
