Amid flurry of reforms in power sector, Rajasthan government of focusing big on revamp of discoms, which are considers the last leg of power sector and the most missed out.
For that, the state government has joined hands with Asian Development Bank (ADB), which is financing and lending technical support in developing the project for ‘Future Proofing Distribution Grid in Rajasthan'.
ADB, which is working with many state government in power sector reforms, has embarked on this project to manage high renewable energy injection, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Distribution Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS).
“This project is being taken up to address the challenges posed by the high injection of renewable energy into the grid and to deploy the latest technology use cases,” said a senior official of energy department.
ADB is likely to address vital issues including the vices of the IBRs, mid-day overvoltage, evening net peaks, harmonics, reverse flow, power quality, PQ management, protection upgrades, congestion and curtailment, frequency regulation, DERMS, and BESS deployment.
“The project will help operations by providing more visibility and controllability of the grid, and will guide us in prioritising future investment planning both on the Capex and the Opex side,” the official said.
With Rajasthan leading the tally in generation of renewable energy, more energy will be injected in grid from green sources. At that time, robust distribution system will be needed to channel the energy in right direction.
