Soon after the denial of bail from Supreme Court, suspended IPS officer Aditya Kumar, surrendered before a court in Patna.
The 2011 batch officer, who roped in his friend to impersonate as Chief Justice of Patna High court to influence Bihar DG police for settling a case related to Kumar's alleged involvement with liquor mafias in Bihar, had been absconding for over a year to evade arrest.
The case pertains to his alleged collusion with liquor mafias during his tenure as the senior superintendent of police in Gaya district.
According to an officer of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar police, Kumar has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the court. The EOU intends to seek his custody shortly to conduct further investigations into the case.
After Kumar was suspended in the liquor case, he roped in his friend Abhishek Bhupalka, who then duped then director general of police S K Singhal by impersonating as chief justice of Patna High court over WhatsApp.
The duo purchased fake Sims in the name of one Rahul Kumar and a new mobile and then made a fake WhatsApp profile of Patna High Court Chief Justice.
Abhishek then, impersonating as Chief Justice, made WhatsApp calls and sent messages to then DGP S K Singhal recommending early closure of corruption charges against SSP Aditya Kumar followed by a plum posting.
After getting repeated calls, DGP Singhal got suspicious and asked Economic Offence Unit (EOU) to look into the case.
The EOW in 25 hours busted this scam and arrested IPS Aditya Kumar's friend Abhishek Bhupalka along with nine mobile phones and fake sims.
