Months after BJP MLC from Karnataka Ravikumar is had questioned if Fouzia Taranum, Kalaburagi's Deputy Commissioner, was “from Pakistan” during a protest in front of her office, another BJP legislator in Karnataka has been caught giving sledgy remark on a woman IPS officer.
Harihar MLA BP Harish made the derogatory remarks while addressing a press conference earlier this week, targeting Davanagere SP Uma Prashanth. He likened her to a Pomeranian pet dog. The MLA accused her of showing undue bias towards the Congress stronghold Shamanuru family while allegedly ignoring him at official meetings.
“If I go to a meeting, she does not acknowledge me properly. But for the Shamanuru family (Shivashankarappa, his minister son SS Mallikarjun, and MP Prabha Mallikarjun) she will wait an hour at the gate, behaving like a Pomeranian dog at their house,”
MLA booked
SP Uma Prashanth later filed a complaint, leading to a case against the MLA under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 79 (insulting a woman's modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The Shamanuru family is one of the most influential political dynasties in Davanagere and central Karnataka. Its patriarch, Shamanuru Shivashankarappa, is a senior Congress leader, a former minister, and currently one of the party's oldest serving legislators. His son, SS Mallikarjun, is the minister for Mines, Geology and Horticulture in the Siddaramaiah government.
The family's political reach also extends to Parliament through Prabha Mallikarjun, Shivashankarappa's daughter-in-law, who is a Congress MP.
