Rajasthan Anti Corruption Bureau has launched intense search operation across the country for former IAS Subodh Agarwal, who is allegedly involved in Rs 900 crore Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam. The agency has also raised look out notice to deter Agarwal from fleeing the country. However even after 40 days, there is no success.
Looking into the history, it seems difficult to catch hold of Agarwal against his wish. He has strong connection in bureaucracy and has many family members in civil services including his wife Rolee Agarwal and son Shubh Agarwal – both Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officers.
The case is an eerie reminder of another incidence, though not similar. Madhukar Tandon, former IPS officer, who was terminated from service after being charge sheeted in a rape case involving wife of his own orderly, has been absconding since 1997. The police has failed miserably to locate and arrest him despite announcing cash prize of Rs 50,000 for his whereabout. The fugitive former cop is still out of bound from “long hands of law”.
Another tainted former IAS officer from Rajasthan cadre BB Mohanty remained absconding after a girl accused him of raping her on pretext of helping her prepare for civil services. The police could not catch him till he surrendered before the court in 2017 and later was acquitted from rape charges.
