Election commission likely to have two observers on each seat in Bihar

Even as the dates for the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 are yet to be announced, the has appointed 470 observers for 243 assembly seats in the state. 

These observers include IAS, IPS, IRS as well as officers from other central services. It will be their responsibility to ensure that the elections are conducted in a completely fair, transparent and peaceful . Along with Bihar, by-elections in many states will also be held under this supervision.

This time the Bihar election is going to be different from the last several elections. For the first time in the Bihar elections 2025, the Election Commission is doing such an experiment, which has never been done in the Bihar elections before today. 

First started SIR in the entire state and now appointing about 500 observers in Bihar. Meaning two observers for one assembly seat. There are 243 assembly seats in Bihar, according to which there is usually one observer in an assembly seat. But this time there will be two observers each in many Vidha Sanbha seats.

The Election Commission has appointed more than 470 observers for the first time in the state for the Bihar elections. The Chief Election Commissioner and both the Election Commissioners are scheduled to visit Bihar on October 4-5 to review the preparations for the elections in Bihar.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and his two Election Commissioners are scheduled to visit Patna on October 4 and 5, where they will conduct an in-depth review of election preparations in Bihar. Just ahead of this high-level tour, the Commission has taken the historic decision to deploy 470 senior officials from across the country on electoral duty in Bihar.

What does the move mean? 

This move by the Election Commission sends a clear message that it is determined to eliminate the influence of power and money. While the IAS officers will monitor the electoral process and administrative aspects, the IPS officers will take charge of law and order and security arrangements. IRS officials will keep a close eye on election expenses and the use of black money, thereby curbing activities such as illegal transactions and enticing voters.
