Has RAS Association got it wrong backing the two SDMs?

RAS officers went on pen down strike in November 2024 when an independent candidate Naresh Meena slapped Malpura Amit Choudhary during the Deoli-Uniara bypolls.

demanded arrest of Naresh Meena, who was later arrested and is still in jail. 

The RAS Association once again has threatened go on strike backing RAS officer Prabhjot Singh Gill who had accused Jaisalmer collector Pratap Singh of misbehaviour and putting inappropriate pressure on him (Gill) for wrongful action. Gill was then serving as SDM Pokhran. He has now been transferred. 

Both Gill and Choudhary have chequered past

RAS Association has come up for both Amit Choudhary and Prabhjot Singh Gill. But both the officers have chequered past. 

A Patwari Vijay Singh Choudhary had alleged that SDM Amit Choudhary abused him (Patwari) and put pressure for doing work against rules. A video also went viral showing SDM Choudhary threatening and abusing farmer-family for vacating land. 

“Association should not defend officers whose conduct is under cloud. It should come up to protect the rights of officers,” said a senior RAS officers.

Similarly, Prabhjot Singh Gill, who has been promoted from Tehsildar service, has had multiple charge sheets and notices against him for laxity in work. He had also been penalised with increment-holds on several occasions. 

“It's not that only Pratap Singh had problems with Gill. He had shown insubordination with other officers as well. So RAS Association should not take accusations of Gill on face value,” said another senior officer.

Pratap Singh handled situation well

Pratap Singh, a 2016 batch , is considered an upright officer with good credentials. He received appreciation from the of India during the GST Council meeting held in Jaisalmer in December 2024. 

Even during the war like situation which had emerged after the , work of Pratap Singh as Jaisalmer collector was well appreciated. He handled the situation and ensured no panic doesn't spread.
