Jodhpur DISCOM managing director Dr Bhanwar Lal has ordered for a crackdown on electricity theft cases.
In the first quarter of this financial year, the DISCOM has recovered more than ₹1.51 crore from 580 cases.
Dr. Bhanwar Lal said that electricity theft not only causes financial loss but also incur injustice to honest consumers, who pay in time.
“We can't tolerate negligence in such cases. It is necessary to listen to consumers, understand their point of view and draw conclusions based on all the facts. Innocent should not be penalised and the guilty should not be spared,” he said.
According to a three-month report, ₹53.90 lakh was recovered by taking action in the 142 cases in the Jodhpur rural circle. After this, ₹21.81 lakh in 133 cases were recovered from Bikaner Rural and ₹22.31 lakh from 71 cases from Bikaner City. The DISCOM has tightened noose on defaulters by running campaigns in Pali, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Barmer, Jalore, Jaisalmer and Churu districts also.
Bhanwar Lal said that the drive will continue and more extensive action will be taken in the coming months. He appealed consumers to feel free to report electricity thefts so that a transparent and equitable energy system can be established.
