Mandeep K Bhandari, a 2001 batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the new CBSE chairperson months after the re-evaluation controversy over the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
Bhandari served as Private Secretary to the Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar from January to September 2018.
Before his CBSE appointment, Bhandari was serving as Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and also held charge as CEO of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
The new CBSE chief was announced less than four months from the appointment of previous chairperson Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, who was given the additional charge of CBSE chairman. He is currently serving as Additional Secretary in Home Ministry.
