Rajasthan is getting future ready to meet the growing demand of power with contribution from renewable going up from 49% to 75% by fiscal year 2036.
Rajasthan Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar said that the state is on top n generating renewable energy with a capacity of 51 GW.
“The capacity has increased by 28 GW in the last 34 months. Our is not only to increase power generation capacity but also to develop a robust and sustainable energy system to meet future demands,” he said while addressing a gathering at Bharat Renewable Energy Summit. Energy Secretary Arti Dogra, RREC Chairman and Managing Director Rohit Gupta and RUVIT Managing Director Nakate Shivprasad Madan were also present.
Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RREC) Chairman and Managing Director Rohit Gupta said that the state is bracing up to meet the growing demand of power.
“The peak demand is growing by 6.9% year on year to swell upto 39.5 GW by fiscal 2035 from 19.5 GW in 2025. By 2030, the peak demand will go up to 28.3 GW with consumption going up to 159 billion units (BU) from 114 BU in 2025,” Gupta said.
Three pronged strategy in place to beat the challenge
He said that Rajasthan ready to accept the challenge and utilising all its renewable energy resources to meet the demand.
“We have a three pronged strategy to mitigate the challenging scenario. We are building up battery storage capacity of 13,088 MWH to meet peak hours demand. Then wear also building robust transmission connectivity to evacuate power and also we are roping in private developers and investors by enabling ease of doing business,” he said.
Future power demand to stem from Data Centres and EV charging
Gupta also forecast future power demand emanating from Data Centre and Artificial Intelligence applications charging of Electrical Vehicles (EV).
“As per an estimate, the power needs for Data centres and AI will go up to 26.3 GW in India by fiscal 2032. In Rajasthan, which has a huge scope of establishing data centres, the current demand is just 6 MW,” he said.
He said that next big opportunity has been lined up in setting up of EV charging stations.
“As many as 86,000 EVs have been sold from January 2026 to July 2026 in Rajasthan – achieving almost 100% growth from last year's sale of 44,000 during that period. However, there are just 1,515 EV charging stations in the state giving a big room for opportunity,” he said.
