IAS Naveen Tanwar convicted for impersonation in bank clerk exam

Naveen Tanwar, a 2019-batch IAS, an alumnus of IIT Delhi, has been convicted for impersonation in bank clerk examination

Naveen Tanwar, a 2019-batch IAS of Himachal Pradesh cadre has been convicted by a CBI court in for impersonation in a bank clerk recruitment exam conducted in December 2014. 

This is probably first of its kind case where an IAS officer has been convicted in the crime of impersonation. 

Naveen Tanwar is among six people found guilty by the court. Tanawar was not present in the court when it pronounced the sentence. The court has sentenced three years imprisonment and cash penalty of ₹10,000 each against the convicts. It has also issued non bailable warrant against Tanwar, who had not appeared before the court on any of the hearings. The court will announce his

Naveen Tanwar is currently posted as additional deputy -cum- director of district rural development agency engaged in integrated tribal development programme (ITDP) in Chamba District. He had earlier served as sub divisional officer (SDO) in Kangra and Chamba. 

What is the case of Naveen Tanwar?

The case dates back to December 2014 when Naveen Tanwar was caught writing the paper on behalf of another convict, Amit Singh, by the from the exam centre. The other convicts were middlemen Sugriv Singh and Hanumat Singh Gurjar, impersonator Sawan Kumar and candidate Ajay Pal Singh. Kumar and Ajay Pal were also arrested from the test centre. The accused were given bail after the arrest.

Naveen Tanwar is an engineering graduate from IIT, Delhi and is a bright student. He continued his preparation for civil services and cracked UPSC while trial was on against him. He was selected in 2019 and was allotted Himachal Pradesh cadre. 

CBI filed a chargesheet on March 12, 2015. During the trial, special judicial magistrate (CBI) Shivam Verma took cognisance of the 22 prosecution witnesses and 28 documentary evidence presented by the CBI and framed charges on Sept 2, 2016.
